| Whisky Trail |
Speyside is an area renowned for its Whisky,
with numerous distilleries throughout the region and the 70-mile long Malt
Whisky Trail follows the River Spey through the northern foothills
of the Grampians in Scotland. The area also holds a fun annual Spirit
of Speyside Whisky Festival each year. Aberlour
Distillery is located on this famous trail and open to visitors. The Balvenie Distillery is a must and offers specialist guided tours twice daily, but you must pre-book - visit their website for further information. |

| Fishing |
The Speyside Way by the River Spey is
noted for salmon
and trout fishing and the river is unusual in that it increases speed
as it flows closer to the coast, making it the fastest flowing river
in Scotland. Fishing permits can be purchased in the village. |

| Local walks |
The Speyside
Way, formerly the old railway line, makes walking
a comfortable and rewarding pursuit. The way is very easy from Dufftown,
through Craigellachie and Aberlour and passed Ballindalloch Castle,
dating from 1546 but restored in 1850, to Glenlivet. |

| Coastal walks |
Aberdeen
and Grampian Coastal Trail is a journey through some of Europe’s most unspoilt and picturesque coastline.
The spectacular
Bow Fiddle Rock at Portknockie is the village's most visited tourist
attraction. Along this section of the Moray Firth the sea has carved
prominent caves, arches and sea stacks in the steeply folded Cullen
quartzite rocks. This is the same rock which forms the hill of the
Bin of Cullen to the south of Portknockie. |

| Golf courses |
There are numerous excellent golf
courses throughout Speyside, which are all open to guest players
and suit all handicaps. Notable courses include Aviemore, Dufftown, Forres, Inverness, Ballindalloch and Elgin and Nairn. The Moray (Lossiemounth) and Royal Dornoch provide the opportunity
for players to enjoy a particularly memorable round. Visitors may
also play Grantown, Nethybridge, Carrbridge, Boat of Garten, Kingussie, Newtonmore and Craggan. |

| Skiing |
Aberlour is a good base for
skiing and snowboarding at both the Lecht ski area, being excellent for beginners, and the
renowned Cairngorm Mountain offering challenging slopes for all abilities. |

| Wildlife |
The Scottish Highlands has an abundance of wildlife with numerous elusive species of birds and mammals - Golden Eagle, Crested Tit, Ptarmigan, Red Squirrel, Pine Marten, Bottlenose Dolphins and Minke Whales. You will hopefully see lots of different species when walking alone but if you wish to see more you can go out with one of the local expert guides/tour companies. The RSPB Osprey Centre near Boat of Garten is an ideal place to visit between April and September, to see Ospreys flying down to catch fish for their nesting young and the hides at the Centre offer superb close-up views of the nest. |
